Lake Kanayama Log Hotel Larch

Lake Kanayama Log Hotel Larch is the hotel which impressed me most in Hokkaido, Japan.

Located in South Furano adjacent to Lake Kanayama, the hotel is not easily accessible by public transport, but hidden by zigzag road and tall trees, the environment of the hotel is destined to be unique.

Built by timber is the most distinctive feature of Log Hotel Larch. All guestrooms consist of two floors, with the lower being living room and bathroom, and the second floor bedroom. For groups with 5 or more, there is a choice of individual cottages where you can barbecue right outside.

Considering the location of the hotel, accommodation packages mostly include dinner and breakfast. It was said that La Montagne, the restaurant in hotel is the best French cuisine in the region. Timber, annual rings, tungsten lighting, grand piano, soft background music, all made up for the elegant dining environment.

Even the cheapest dinner looked good. Fish, beef and fungi all presented neatly on small square dishes, expressing the luxury of French cuisine with an exquisite Japanese touch. Taking the flavour of Japanese into consideration, Tenpura rice was also offered in the course.

Breakfast here is not the usual buffet style, but the French way. Scrambled egg in a fine china cup, freshly baked croissant and toast in its best golden colour. It does not satisfy your eat-all-you-can desire but the morning sunshine into the restaurant freshen up everything, a different atmosphere from dinner time.

You would be curious how much would it cost for all these fine things. The answer is 10,500JPY for 2 persons, it was an unbelievable good deal. The price was in October 2008 so please take into consideration of exchange rate and economical environment of the time. Such offer may no longer exist but nevertheless this hotel is a must-stay during your trip to Hokkaido Furano region.
